Twelve years ago, mother and daughter duo, Jan Slater and Sarah Sammon, co-founded the southern hemisphere’s first rose petal farm just out of Swan Hill in north-west Victoria – Simply Rose Petals.
Jan and Sarah have a 35-year history of rose growing and petal producing. Over the last decade, the farm has grown from 1,000 rose plants and a tiny office in the family home to 6,000 rose plants, 10 varieties of edible flowers, three commercial 1.5 tonne freeze driers, a climate controlled drying and packaging facility, commercial cool room and office.
They have a range of products to serve different purposes, including petals for weddings and romantic occasions, and a world first – freeze dried edible flowers for cocktail and cake decorations. They also sell innovative cannons, which shoot the rose petals up to 12 feet high.
From the banks of the Murray River, they now export to 15 countries.
Regional Online Heroes was an incredible opportunity to receive online marketing advice from the best in the country. Spending one-on-one time with a Google online marketing guru was invaluable and has definitely improved our paid search. The Masterclass was a fabulous way to network with online industry leaders and I’ve continued to stay in contact with many of the finalists and judges.
Since the 2016 Masterclass Simply Rose Petals has expanded their business. Sarah shared their highlights including:
- The launch of a new website specialising in edible flowers, to complement their existing one. Take a look at www.simplyedibleflowers.com.au
- Simply Rose Petals range of edible flowers has expanded and they have supplied some leading cake decorators, patisseries and beauty retailers with their organic products, including Lush Cosmetics and Adriano Zumbo.
- They were announced in the Top 5 for Special Services in the Australian Bridal Industry Awards (ABIA).
