Outback Astronomy offer a unique tourism experience with astronomy tours of the naturally dark Australian sky. Thanks to their internet presence, Outback Astronomy has been listed in TripAdvisor’s top 26 of the world’s hottest new experiences for 2015 (January 2015) and was ranked by Elle Magazine in their top 25 global travel destinations (June 2015). In the year ending 30 June 2015, nearly 60% of customers heard about Outback Astronomy via a direct internet search, Facebook and TripAdvisor. Revenue increased more than 700% in September 2015, compared to the same time in 2014. In 2015 they began selling products, conducting transport services and opened an online store in response to customer demand. Their goal is to create a leading astro-tourism experience leveraging Australia’s naturally dark sky, while helping to sustain their community. Outback Astronomy leads the local Far West Science Hub and hosted National Science Week events in 2014 (Aboriginal astronomy presentation) and 2015 (world record stargazing held in conjunction with Mt Stromlo observatory, ACT).
